You will investigate how scientific illustrators use observable evidence to make subjects understandable, create and preserve an initial sketch, and practice improving visual clarity through peer feedback.
Days 1 - 2
Question & Plan
Question & Plan
You will select an observable subject, refine a focused scientific question, and build a safe, repeatable method for examining texture, shape, relative size, or spatial relationships. You will test and revise your plan through peer feedback before adding the approved question-and-method plan to your mini portfolio.
Days 3 - 8
Observe & Record
Observe & Record
You will use a consistent, safe observation method to create two dated evidence records of the same subject. You will document textures, shapes, relative sizes, and spatial relationships; exchange feedback with two peers; and organize your evidence for the next phase of drawing revision.
Days 9 - 13
Revise & Explain
Revise & Explain
You will analyze your observation evidence, test drawing techniques, revise your scientific drawing through two rounds of peer feedback, and assemble a mini portfolio and reflection card for the expo.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
You will rehearse an evidence-based explanation, improve it through peer feedback, and present your before-and-after scientific drawing display and mini portfolio to an invited guest.
