Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to investigate community design needs in Bronx businesses and school spaces through teacher-supported interviews and observation notes to identify user-centered problems.

2

Students will be able to synthesize empathy map evidence and interview notes about classmates or community members to define a clear design problem for a specific audience.

3

Students will be able to analyze examples of local graphics, signage, posters, and app visuals to identify visual design choices that affect accessibility, clarity, and audience response.

4

Students will be able to create multiple low-fidelity paper sketches and mood boards for a community design solution that responds to identified user needs.

5

Students will be able to test low-fidelity prototypes with peer or community feedback and refine one design improvement based on user response.

6

Students will be able to justify visual and technical design decisions using accessibility checks, originality, and ethical media-making criteria including AI bias and copyright concerns.

7

Students will be able to collaborate to develop a shared problem statement and higher-fidelity prototype for a local Bronx business that can be presented to authentic stakeholders.
