Learning Goals
Students will be able to investigate everyday materials by collecting and analyzing evidence about visible and measurable properties to explain how atomic structure affects material usefulness, safety, and behavior.
Students will be able to develop and revise models of atoms, ions, and nuclear changes to explain chemical reactions, fission, fusion, and radioactive decay using evidence from lab and partner observations.
Students will be able to justify claims about water treatment and material selection by connecting investigation data to atomic interactions, safety considerations, and limitations in the evidence.

Atomic Investigation Notebook and Evidence Log
Each student submits a research notebook that records their question, test notes, model sketches, source notes from the chemistry and water-treatment experiences, and personal analysis of patterns, anomalies, and limits. It demonstrates individual mastery of atomic structure, reactions, and nuclear-change concepts through evidence-based explanation.
Atomic Patterns Open House Investigation Report and Presentation
Teams create a formal report and short presentation synthesizing members' evidence into a shared explanation of how atomic structure affects materials, reactions, and water safety. The product must include methodology, visual evidence, conclusions, limitations, and new questions, and it should clearly show how individual contributions informed the team claim.
