Students will launch the investigation by noticing how actions affect others in story scenes and real-life situations, then begin practicing how to describe character choices, sequence what happened next, and compare story actions to responsible choices in school and community life.

Students will investigate how a character’s action may change what happens next by studying puzzling story moments, asking focused questions, forming a simple hypothesis, and planning what evidence to collect from the text. They will use partner talk, drawing, captions, and oral rehearsal to prepare a clear evidence-collection plan for the next phase.

Students will collect and check story evidence by reading closely, retelling in sequence, documenting character traits, feelings, motivations, and actions, and tracing how those actions changed what happened next. They will compare notes with peers, revise drawings and captions using text evidence, and complete a quality checkpoint so their investigation notebook is accurate, clear, and ready for analysis.

Students will organize and interpret the story evidence they have gathered, test their ideas with classmates, and turn their findings into clear exhibit materials that explain how character actions changed events and connect to real-life responsible choices.

Students will present their completed story-choice investigations to families, staff, and community partners, explain how character actions shaped events and endings, compare story choices to real-life responsible choices, and reflect on how feedback and revision strengthened their final work.
