Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to identify the central idea and relevant supporting details in reliable texts about bee behavior, nesting, pollination, and school safety to understand how evidence defines a community problem.

2

Students will be able to explain how headings, captions, diagrams, maps, and other text features clarify information about bees and safe responses to understand how authors support meaning.

3

Students will be able to analyze chronology, comparison, and cause-and-effect structures in texts and observation records about bee activity to understand patterns, possible causes, and potential effects on the school community.

4

Students will be able to evaluate safe, humane responses to bees near school spaces using textual evidence, observation patterns, and expert feedback to understand how communities choose actions based on evidence.

5

Students will be able to communicate an evidence-based bee-safety recommendation to school audiences to understand how clear and empathetic communication supports community decision-making.

6

Students will be able to reflect on shared decisions, assigned roles, feedback, and revisions during the bee-safety project to understand how collaboration and self-direction improve community solutions.

Bee Activity Evidence Report and Design Reflection

Each student creates an illustrated report that analyzes reliable bee texts and teacher-approved observations from a safe distance, identifies central ideas and details, explains text features and structures, evaluates possible responses, and recommends a safe, humane action. A reflection documents the student's communication, team contributions, feedback, and revisions across the DEEDS process.

School Bee-Safety Action Plan and Community Presentation

Teams develop and present an evidence-based plan—such as signs, safer routes, or recommendations for adult-managed campus changes—that explains bee-activity patterns, compares responses, and proposes a safe, humane solution for review by school clients or experts. The presentation includes each member's documented role, shared decisions, response to feedback, and proposed method for judging effectiveness without approaching or handling bees.
