Launch
Students will launch the Matter Lab Fair challenge by examining five safe investigation previews, unpacking the essential question, and preparing to teach second-grade partners. They will practice a brief explanation and labeled demonstration, exchange feedback, make an initial revision, and gather early questions from second graders.
Days 1 - 2
Research & Empathize
Research & Empathize
Students will gather and analyze firsthand evidence about how second graders understand five matter investigations, then create an evidence log, empathy map, and provisional instructional problem statement to guide later station design.
Days 3 - 8
Design & Test
Design & Test
Students will turn second-grader feedback and matter evidence into user-centered station concepts, construct low-fidelity prototypes, complete peer and second-grade testing cycles, and document evidence-based revisions before advancing to final production.
Days 9 - 13
Refine & Rehearse
Refine & Rehearse
Students will refine scientifically accurate, safe, and resource-conscious matter stations, validate them with second-grade learners, revise from evidence, and complete a readiness rehearsal for the Matter Lab Fair.
Days 14 - 18
Showcase
Showcase
Students will operate the five-station Matter Lab Fair for second-grade visitors, demonstrate their understanding of matter, gather audience feedback, submit their museum products as performance evidence, and reflect with their partners.
