Launch
Launch
Students will launch the inquiry by testing sample claims, learning how to set up an investigation notebook, generating and refining a self-selected mini-investigation question, and using early feedback from peers and an investigative journalist to strengthen how they track evidence and judge trustworthiness.
Days 1 - 5
Launch Investigation
Launch Investigation
Students will investigate a puzzling election-related claim, refine a self-generated question, draft a tentative hypothesis, and build an initial source plan that names how they will trace evidence and sort fact, opinion, reasoned judgment, and speculation before moving into fuller research.
Days 6 - 13
Plan Evidence Methods
Plan Evidence Methods
Students will finalize how they will test claims before collecting more evidence by building traceable investigation notebooks, agreeing on source-tracing and fact-checking routines, peer-reviewing their methods, and revising their plans after feedback from classmates and an investigative journalist.
Days 14 - 21
Collect Source Records
Collect Source Records
Students will gather, trace, and record source evidence for their investigation questions, test the credibility of claims across election messaging, The Crucible, and buffalo history, and improve their evidence trails through peer critique and an investigative journalist check-in before moving into deeper analysis.
Days 22 - 29
Analyze Patterns Findings
Analyze Patterns Findings
Students will organize their collected evidence into usable categories, turn source records into visual patterns, test competing interpretations through structured discussion, and strengthen their claims by revising with peer and expert feedback. They will track contradictions, anomalies, and limitations in their notebooks so their final conclusions are more precise, better supported, and more honest about uncertainty.
Days 30 - 36
Present Evidence Conclusions
Present Evidence Conclusions
Students will finalize warranted conclusions from their investigations, name limits and uncertainties honestly, and turn their evidence trails into audience-ready awareness materials. They will test clarity and credibility through peer critique, a journalist check-in, and a cross-grade evidence review before completing a gallery-style draft showcase that prepares them for the public exhibition.
Days 37 - 43
Showcase
Showcase
Students will present their final truth-testing work to authentic audiences, respond to critique in real time, make last-mile revisions to their evidence trail and presentation choices, and reflect on how their claims, source judgments, and collaboration changed across the investigation.
