Students will launch the maintenance decision project by modeling short real-world scenarios, meeting the school facilities problem, and drafting an initial investigation direction with clear variables, constraints, and questions for further evidence gathering.

Students will investigate a puzzling school maintenance case, turn partial information into focused mathematical questions, and draft an initial modeling plan with variables, constraints, and possible equations or inequalities. They will test early ideas with peers, revise their reasoning based on feedback, and complete a checkpoint that shows they are ready to gather stronger evidence in the next phase.

Students will gather and organize evidence for multiple maintenance or repair options, document assumptions and source quality, convert collected information into labeled tables and equation-ready records, and test whether their models are traceable and usable before moving into deeper analysis.

Students will compare equation-based models for a real maintenance decision, test which options are viable under cost and time constraints, revise their representations through critique, and prepare a clear recommendation for the Model Makers Fair.

Students will present their completed maintenance decision models to an authentic audience, defend their recommendations with equations, inequalities, tables, and graphs, respond to questions about viable and nonviable options, and document how feedback and stuck points shaped their final revisions and next steps.
