Students will enter the project through a dramatic courtroom hook, begin comparing perspectives in one fairy tale and a related folktale version, and practice asking evidence questions about witness statements and story sources. They will use talk, movement, drawings, and short oral retells to start building the speaking, listening, and source-thinking routines needed for later trial work.

Students will choose a fairness-based position about a character in the class fairy tale, test that position against multiple perspectives, and create early argument artifacts that show a claim, reasons, and a character point of view. They will use oral retells, decodable witness statements, drawings, and peer feedback to strengthen how they explain what happened and why their side makes sense.

Students will gather details from fairy-tale versions and decodable witness statements, sort evidence for and against their team claim, question which details seem factual or fictional inside the story world, and revise their evidence choices after discussion and feedback.

Students will turn gathered story details into clear trial arguments by matching claims with evidence, explaining why the evidence matters, preparing rebuttals, and rehearsing witness and attorney speaking parts with feedback and revision.

Students will strengthen one mock-trial speech or witness testimony through critique, revision, and rehearsal, then defend their ideas in a live practice gallery by using story evidence, comparing perspectives, answering challenges, and reflecting on how feedback and evidence changed their thinking.

Students will present their finished Fairy Tale Court mock trial and courtroom gallery walk to families and community members, use evidence and point of view clearly in attorney and witness roles, and complete a final oral and journal reflection about how their speaking, listening, and thinking changed.
