Students will be able to investigate local community history using headlines, maps, oral histories, and archival sources to identify patterns of change and continuity in place-based challenges.

Students will be able to analyze primary and secondary sources about civil rights and youth-led organizing to explain how collective action has produced social change.

Students will be able to conduct and document stakeholder interviews with residents and community partners to gather firsthand evidence of needs, values, and perspectives.

Students will be able to synthesize community evidence into a clear problem statement that explains a current local challenge, its root causes, and the people most affected.

Students will be able to map stakeholders and coalition possibilities to identify who must be involved in creating meaningful local change.

Community Research Portfolio and Individual Design Prototype

Each student creates a research portfolio with interview notes, source analyses, a stakeholder snapshot, and a root-cause problem statement. The portfolio also includes one individual prototype or concept sketch that translates evidence into a testable community action idea.

team

Community Change Campaign Brief, Prototype, and Public Pitch

Teams develop a shared problem statement, stakeholder map, and higher-fidelity campaign or service prototype shaped by community feedback. They present the solution to authentic stakeholders and explain how research, iteration, and collaboration informed their final plan.
