Students will be able to explain how energy in animals' food originally comes from the sun by using models from plant investigations.
Students will be able to support an argument that plants get the materials they need for growth chiefly from air and water using evidence from photosynthesis and transport investigations.
Students will be able to construct an explanation of how sunlight affects plant growth and movement by analyzing phototropism, xylem transport, and leaf condensation observations.

Plant Evidence Research Journal and Single-Player Food Web Prototype
Each student creates a research journal with investigation notes, sketches, and a short claim-evidence-reasoning explanation about how the sun, air, and water support living things. Students also build a simple individual game prototype or paper model that shows one accurate part of the sun-to-plant-to-animal energy pathway.
Food Web Carnival Game with Shared Problem Statement and Playtest Revision Log
Teams produce one polished board, card, or interactive game, plus a short shared problem statement and revision log that explains how user feedback shaped the final design. The game must clearly teach younger students how energy from the sun moves through plants to animals and why plants need air and water to grow.
