Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to formulate an investigable question about how a specific brain structure or process relates to memory, emotion, perception, or identity.

2

Students will be able to investigate major brain structures and their functions using observation, source analysis, and neuroscientist input.

3

Students will be able to analyze evidence from brain images, anatomical drawings, and research notes to identify patterns linking structure and function.

4

Students will be able to interpret how perception, memory, and emotion contribute to identity using accurate neuroscience vocabulary.

5

Students will be able to design and refine watercolor or ink experiments that match artistic materials to intended scientific meaning.

6

Students will be able to justify visual choices in an artist-scientist statement using both brain research and personal reflection.

7

Students will be able to evaluate limitations and unanswered questions in their investigation of the brain and self.

Brain and Identity Investigation Notebook

Students compile a research notebook that documents their question development, source notes, observational sketches, anatomy studies, experiment trials, and personal analysis. It proves individual mastery of brain content, inquiry process, and evidence-based reflection.

team

Brain and Identity Research-to-Art Presentation and Exhibit Board

Teams synthesize individual evidence into a formal presentation and exhibit board that explains their shared findings, methodology, visual evidence, conclusions, limitations, and new questions. The product must show how each member’s research informed the collaborative interpretation and artwork plan.
