Students will launch the garden addition investigation by building and discussing simple garden stories with real materials, then create an initial model and explanation that shows how a story can be solved in different ways.

Students will investigate how garden addition stories can be shown in different ways by building scenes with seeds, leaves, and flowers, comparing object models and drawings, using math words to explain totals, and revising early ideas through peer and teacher feedback.

Students will co-create and use a simple evidence-collection method for garden addition investigations by showing stories with objects, drawings, and matching equations, checking work with peers and the teacher, revising based on feedback, and gathering new evidence from real garden materials.

Students will sort and study their garden addition evidence, compare multiple representations of the same story, revise their story book pages through teacher and peer feedback, and prepare clear explanations for a gallery walk about how objects, drawings, and equations can all show the same total.

Students will present their finished garden addition stories to visitors, explain how different representations show the same total, complete a final picture-or-object math explanation, and reflect with a partner on how they contributed and what they learned.
