Students will launch the songwriting project by listening to and discussing songs they care about, noticing how lyrics, rhythm, and melody shape feelings, and meeting the challenge to create a class song with ʻukulele, words, and beat for a real audience.

Students will listen to songs, interview classmates about music preferences and feelings, study how lyrics and rhythm shape mood, and organize their findings into an empathy-based design brief for a class song. They will use feedback from peers and Lōkahi: The Ukulele Collective to refine a How Might We statement and clear success criteria before moving into drafting and prototyping.

Students will turn their research and planning into testable song ideas by building quick chord, rhythm, and lyric prototypes, gathering feedback from classmates and Lōkahi: The Ukulele Collective, revising through two short iteration cycles, and preparing a concise stakeholder-facing share-out of the evidence behind their choices.

Students will present their finished class song to an authentic audience, share how feedback shaped their final musical and lyric choices, and complete a brief artist reflection connected to the lyric writing competition submission.
