Students will launch the civic memory project by examining local public spaces, learning core analytical and discussion tools, practicing oral history routines, and producing the first evidence-based interpretations that will guide later research and proposal work.

Students will gather, test, and organize historical and community evidence for their public-space position by evaluating source credibility, conducting oral-history fieldwork, annotating maps and local records, and building a Two-Column Historical Ledger that tracks both supporting and challenging evidence.

Sort Evidence And Counter
Students will sort their research ledger into strongest support and strongest counterevidence, test the credibility and relevance of competing sources, and write a counterargument paragraph with a fair rebuttal that strengthens their eventual public proposal.

Build Argument Draft
Build Argument Draft
Students will turn their evidence ledgers, counterarguments, interview notes, and site analyses into a full proposal argument draft with clear claims, sub-claims, warrants, citations, and rebuttals. They will strengthen dossier-ready writing and visuals through structured peer critique, teacher conferencing, and revision checkpoints that emphasize credibility, audience awareness, and fair treatment of competing perspectives.

Rehearse Public Defense
Students will tighten the logic, citations, and audience readiness of their proposal materials through critique, coaching, and repeated public-defense rehearsal. They will test their claims against strong counterarguments, revise with evidence, and document how their position became more precise and defensible.
