Students will launch the cow fundraising project by building shared background knowledge, noticing what makes a message persuasive and kind, and generating first ideas for letters and artwork that could inspire local businesses to donate.

Students will choose a clear opinion about asking local businesses to support the Heifer cow project, use class facts to give reasons, draft a persuasive donation letter, and create a matching piece of cow-themed message art. They will share early work with classmates, give feedback to 2 peers, receive feedback, and revise to prepare for stronger evidence-based writing in the next phase.

Defend and Reflect
Students will strengthen their donation letters and short spoken defenses by using class research as evidence, giving and receiving peer feedback, and revising their message for a real audience. They will practice naming sources in kid-friendly language, answering simple audience questions, and reflecting on how feedback made their argument clearer and kinder.
