Learning Goals & Products

Learning Goals

1

Students will be able to analyze area and perimeter for rectangular city blocks to determine whether homes, parks, and roads fit within given space constraints.

2

Students will be able to draw and label points, line segments, angles, and parallel and perpendicular lines to create an accurate townscape layout.

3

Students will be able to solve measurement-based planning problems and justify revisions to a city design using evidence from calculations and peer feedback.

Scaled City Block Design Sheet with Math Justification

Each student creates a labeled planning sheet showing a single city block with measured homes, parks, and roads. The sheet must include area, perimeter, and geometry labels, plus written justification for design choices and one revision based on feedback or testing.

Revised Cityscape Model with Planner Presentation Card

Teams build a final cityscape or townscape model or poster that fits the agreed-upon measurements and includes a short display card explaining performance, trade-offs, and one improvement made after testing. The model is displayed for a hallway gallery walk and should clearly show how the team used math to solve the design challenge.
