Students will be able to investigate the political, economic, and social causes of communist revolution in China, North Korea, or Cuba using primary and secondary sources.
Students will be able to analyze the major historical developments of communist rule in China, North Korea, or Cuba and explain how those developments changed the country over time.
Students will be able to collect and document evidence about the country today, including government structure, living conditions, economic conditions, foreign affairs, and freedom index data.
Students will be able to evaluate the reliability and relevance of sources by comparing agreement, disagreement, and corroboration across documents and data sets.
Students will be able to justify evidence-based conclusions about how communist regimes operate today and what their freedom index scores suggest about political and economic freedom.
Products
Individual Country Investigation Notebook
Students compile a research notebook that records their question, source notes, method choices, data on causes, history, and current conditions, and a personal analysis of what the evidence shows. The notebook demonstrates individual mastery of the assigned country through documented evidence, explanation of patterns, and a justified conclusion.
World Affairs Showcase Multimedia Presentation and Country Snapshot Booth
Teams create a formal presentation and interactive booth that synthesize each member’s evidence into a shared claim about the country’s communist revolution, historical changes, and present-day conditions. The team product must include visuals, cited evidence, speaker roles for every member, and explicit discussion of anomalies, limitations, and unanswered questions.
