Students will launch the habitat investigation by exploring a mystery habitat with real artifacts and images, then use close observation to ask investigable questions about animals, food chains, and survival. They will practice recording what they notice, listening to peers, and setting simple team expectations for calm, persistent work in later building and research phases.

Students will study a puzzling habitat case, sort observation clues about animals, food, shelter, and safety, and turn their wondering into a focused investigable question and a simple evidence-based hypothesis. They will use partner talk, drawing, and oral rehearsal to separate what they observed from what they inferred, then revise their ideas after peer feedback before moving into data collection.

Students will make a simple plan for how to collect habitat evidence, use shared recording routines to gather observations from texts, media, and partner-provided animal sources, and complete a mid-phase checkpoint to confirm that their notes, drawings, and categories match their investigation question.

Students will sort and interpret their habitat evidence, turn observations into simple claims about food, shelter, safety, and survival, and prepare revised visuals and spoken conclusions for the upcoming Habitat Museum.

Students will present their Habitat Museum exhibits to families, peers, teachers, and community guests, explain how animals and plants depend on habitats and food chains, share how their models changed after critique and revision, and reflect on teamwork, calm problem-solving, and scientific noticing.
