Launch
Students will enter the course through a high-interest adaptation challenge, build a shared vocabulary for literary and film analysis, begin tracking evidence and source credibility, and set norms for collaborative argument. By the end of the phase, they will have tested early claims about what survives when stories are remade, produced a first analytical artifact, and completed a graded readiness checkpoint that prepares them for stronger position-taking in the next phase.
Days 1 - 5
Choose the Claim
Choose the Claim
Students will take an early, defensible position on whether remaking a story or self must preserve an essential core or can replace it without meaningful loss. They will analyze short Frankenstein text and film moments, test competing interpretations, evaluate the quality of early evidence, and develop a tentative thesis with evidence leads, counterpoints, and a short spoken opening statement.
Days 6 - 12
Gather Evidence
Gather Evidence
Students will collect, test, and organize literary, cinematic, and contextual evidence for an adaptation argument by researching across source types, evaluating credibility, identifying support and challenge, and revising an evidence map that prepares them to build a defensible claim in the next phase.
Days 13 - 19
Build Argument Draft
Build Argument Draft
Students will turn their research and comparative analysis into a defensible adaptation argument by drafting claims, subclaims, warrants, counterarguments, and rebuttals; attaching textual, cinematic, and contextual evidence; and building an early visual plan for the symposium and trailer-style synthesis. Through structured modeling, peer critique, revision, and a milestone conference, they will prepare a visible draft artifact that is ready for deeper revision in the next phase.
Days 20 - 26
Revise With Feedback
Revise With Feedback
Students will use critique protocols, evidence checks, and revision planning to strengthen their Frankenstein adaptation arguments and companion visual materials. They will test their claims against counterevidence, refine pacing and design choices for audience impact, and document how feedback changed both their analysis and communication.
Days 27 - 33
Defend And Reflect
Defend And Reflect
Students will finalize and defend their Frankenstein adaptation claims through trailer-style synthesis, live rebuttal, and reflective portfolio updates. They will use cited textual and cinematic evidence, respond to competing interpretations, revise after peer and guest critique, and explain how their thinking changed through the inquiry.
Days 34 - 40
Showcase
Showcase
Students will curate and present their strongest Frankenstein adaptation analysis for an authentic audience, use critique and audience questions to defend their reasoning with precise evidence, and complete final portfolio reflection artifacts that show how their claims, communication, and comparative analysis developed across the project.
