Students will be able to ask questions, make observations, and gather information about current school spaces to define a user-centered problem for an Innovation Center.

Students will be able to synthesize interview notes and observation maps about peers, teachers, Yass, and CTE partners to identify patterns in what makes an Innovation Center welcoming, useful, and exciting.

Students will be able to define a specific Innovation Center problem by breaking a complex school need into smaller, manageable design tasks and criteria.

Students will be able to generate and compare multiple possible Innovation Center features, layouts, or tools based on criteria, constraints, accessibility, and budget.

User Research Portfolio and Single-Feature Prototype

Each student creates a research portfolio with interview notes, observation maps, and an empathy summary, then designs one low-tech prototype feature for the Innovation Center. The prototype must show how a specific user need informed the design and what change was made after feedback.

Innovation Center Proposal Board and Collaborative Model Pitch

Teams combine individual research and prototype ideas into one shared problem statement, a revised floor plan or service model, and a short pitch for an Innovation Fair. The final proposal explains the user need, design choices, trade-offs, and revisions based on critique.
