Students work in small groups to explore variance using real Memphis data and local examples. Begin with a quick class look at two or three simple data sets, such as neighborhood rent ranges, school attendance patterns, or local sports stats. Invite a local partner, data specialist, coach, or community organizer to share one short example of how variation shows up in their work. Students then compare which data sets show more spread, record patterns in their notes, and connect the idea of variance to their own routines, interests, and experiences outside school. End with a brief group share where students explain one real-life situation in Memphis where variance matters.
