Students will launch the Orlando theme park engineering challenge by defining the motion-safety problem, examining the needs of people affected by a loading system, and developing inquiry questions that guide later investigations of simple machines, direction, and speed.
Days 1 - 2
Examine
Examine
Students will investigate how pulleys, levers, and wheel-and-axle systems redirect force, measure and compare model-cart speeds, evaluate research sources, determine causes of unsafe or inconsistent motion, and propose an evidence-based loading-system solution for an Orlando theme park.
Days 3 - 11
Engineer
Engineer
Students will work as Orlando theme park engineers to translate motion science into specifications, compare simple-machine concepts, plan a classroom-safe model, and document an evidence-based prototype revision before formal testing.
Days 12 - 17
Do
Do
Students will finalize a controlled-test plan, safely operate their loading-system prototype, collect and analyze motion data, and revise the system using evidence prepared for a possible Disney Imagineering or school-community review.
Days 18 - 19
Share
Share
Students will present and demonstrate their tested Orlando theme park loading-system prototypes to an authentic feedback panel, explain evidence-based improvements, and reflect on their growth as engineers.
