Students will launch the community careers project by observing local work spaces, practicing respectful interviewing and note-taking, learning from community partners, and organizing early evidence about tools, tasks, training, and community impact to prepare for later design work.
Days 1 - 4
Define
Define
Students will organize evidence from community career observations and interviews, identify patterns in tools, tasks, training, and community impact, and turn those patterns into a clear design problem with criteria and constraints that can guide later prototype work.
Days 5 - 8
Ideate
Ideate
Students will use evidence from career interviews, plaza notes, and observation categories to generate several solution ideas, compare them to user needs and constraints, and choose one direction to carry into drafting.
Days 9 - 12
Draft
Draft
Students will turn researched career needs into first-draft solutions by planning, building, documenting, and revising simple prototypes connected to real community work. They will use evidence from notes, sketches, interviews, and career comparisons to make design choices, explain materials and constraints, and prepare draft artifacts for later testing and critique.
Days 13 - 18
Test
Test
Students will test their career-related prototype drafts with peers and community users, collect evidence-based feedback, compare results to criteria and constraints, and revise their portfolio records to show how user needs shaped next steps.
Days 19 - 22
Critique
Critique
Students will use structured critique routines to improve their career comparison evidence, prototype revisions, and reflection artifacts. They will give feedback to 2 peers, receive feedback, revise using evidence from interviews and testing, and prepare stronger portfolio pieces for the final phase.
Days 23 - 26
Notice & Reflect
Notice & Reflect
Students will curate evidence from their career research and design work, revise how they communicate their learning, and share a final multimedia showcase that explains what they learned from community partners, how feedback changed their ideas, and what future path they want to explore next.
